Default Is acne a skin disease? - 01-11-2009, 04:31 AM

I had acne for 8 years, and it was hereditary/hormonal. I had acne throughout my teens(first moderate than it became severe)..I basically grew up with acne and it did affect my life, my personality and who I am today. After this, can you argue that acne is not a skin disease?then* not thanI had tried everything before going into accutane 7 months ago. You name it, I've done it/tried it. And don't let me start about the side effects of accutane. Right now my hair is falling out, my lips, skin, eyes, and nose is dry. Migraines every now and then...But luckily I didn't have liver damage or depression(possible side affects).

ya!! It is a the most common skin disorder. The skin eruptions from acne may be mild, involving exposed areas of the body, or severe covering of all the body.

Acne treatment & cure
  • Acne generally resolves on its own, though it causes great anguish and anxiety to teenagers.
  • Severe cases may have secondary infection with the formation of deep cysts, visible outside as large boils or lumps. These are better treated by your doctor.
  • Acne is often treated by dermatologists. These doctors treat all kinds of acne, particularly severe cases. Doctors who are general or family practitioners, pediatricians, or internists may treat patients with milder cases of acne.

Default Don't know about disease... - 09-20-2010, 03:12 PM

Hey.

Very good info here must say. I don't know if I'd call acne a disease though. Because as said in one post there earlier it is caused by the overflow of oil in your pores (the pore that is blocked by excessive oil attracts the p.acne bacteria to itself and becomes inflamed).

Your hormones simply increase the production of this oil as you're a teenager.

So I don't know, you can call it a disease if you like but I don't know if I would.
