Default What’s the difference between liposculpture and liposuction? - 05-15-2013, 02:09 PM

Patients who are looking into having liposuction performed often run across the word “liposculpture” and wonder what these words mean? Is liposculpture the same as liposuction? The answer is, “yes and no.” It depends on who you’re talking to. Though liposculpture makes use of liposuction techniques, liposculpture may involve advanced technologies and perhaps some additional steps that traditional liposuction procedures leave out. Both procedures offer patients remarkable results, but liposculpture may be more appropriate for certain patients who are already quite fit and very close to their ideal body weight already.
Liposuction is a word that’s familiar to a lot of people today. Indeed, liposuction procedures are among the most popular plastic surgeries performed in the United States today on both men and women. The procedure involves the removal of fat from the body using a specialized tube and suctioning machine. The plastic surgeon evaluates the patient just before surgery, making markings on the body as landmarks during the procedure. The surgeon then injects the areas of the body being treated with a special fluid that causes fat cells to swell and become firm. The injection also contains a numbing agent known as lidocaine. Then, incisions are made in the targeted areas of the body. The hollow tube (known as a cannula) is then inserted into the incisions and fat is suctioned out of the target area, into the tube where it is stored in a container.
The basic procedure described above is a part of almost all liposuction surgeries, no matter what other technologies are included to make the process easier, less painful, or perhaps just more precise. Liposculpture, for example, typically involves enhanced technologies that are used in addition to the basic liposuction procedure. High definition liposculpture, for example, makes use of laser lipolysis technologies to provide patients with an even more toned and defined look than what’s possible with just the basics.
High definition liposculpture is for patients who are within only a few pounds of their ideal body weight. The liposuction procedure is performed as usual, but the doctor uses SmartLipo Triplex laser technologies to melt the fat cells before they are suctioned out of the body. This allows the doctor to use a slightly smaller cannula (hollow tube) which means less scarring, and a high level of precision as well. High definition liposculpture is performed to highlight the underlying musculature in a patient’s body and provide a super-toned athletic appearance.
High definition liposculpture may include one other additional element that is absent from traditional liposuction procedures. In some cases, patients may wish to have additional volume in certain areas of the body. For example, a man who is having liposculpture performed on his abdomen may wish to have his abdominal muscles enhanced. Plastic surgeons are able to suction fat out of the abdomen and then re-insert it back into key places to highlight the abdominal muscles and give them more volume. In a sense, the plastic surgeon is truly acting as a sculptor, thus the word “liposculpture”. Patients are able to achieve incredible results with high definition liposculpture and achieve the body of their dreams.
