Default Any alternative medicine ideas for long term back pain? - 03-19-2009, 02:42 AM

Hello, I have tried chronic pain clinics, some strong meds, accupuncture, exercise, etc and still have lumbar spine back pain that greatly limits my function. I have bulging discs in L4 and L5 with spinal stenosis. Has anyone had any luck with anything alternative? Your honest replies greatly appreciated, THANKS

Have you tried magnets? I've got a magnetic back pad that works wonders! This is beneficial for you.

If you suffer from severe back pain and fear that surgery may be necessary, or if surgery has been recommended and you question the wisdom of it, you may want to try some non-surgical physical treatments first.
Unless your back pain is due to an infection, malformation of the back, or tumor, some type of physical treatment can probably help it. Let's look at a few of the more popular and effective types of treatment.
Chiropractic Therapy
Chiropractic treatment has been shown to be most effective when applied within 2 months of the onset of back pain. Chiropractors realign the spine, increase the range of motion in back muscles, increase the flexibility of spinal soft tissue, break down scar tissue, and reduce pressure from constricted and misaligned spinal joints, all of which help to relieve pain. Usually treatment takes around 15 minutes 3 times a week at first. Over a few weeks sessions decrease until you are on a maintenance program of once a month or even "come come only if it hurts."

Thanks for reading

Hi

Sorry to hear that you are in so much pain.

Have you tried Aromatherapy, Swedish Body Massage, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage? All these can bring about some pain relief, albeit on a short-term basis, and are therapeutic and very relaxing.

Make sure that you find a good, professional therapist though, one who has professional qualifications and insurance.

Hope you feel better soon, even if only for a little while.

Take care of yourself.

Have you tried acupuncture or semi-permanent acupressure? I just read about it on Macs Magazine and it seems like it really helps. They break down how it works whether you believe in the spiritual healing side or a more scientific approach. I thought that was pretty cool. It's listed in their "Way Forward" section if you want to check it out. Everything in that section is about holistic living and alternative therapies. Pretty cool stuff.

Hello,

Utilizing herbs for pain relief can relieve chronic back pain. Chronic back pain can manifest itself through insomnia, back spasms, depression and muscular tension. Many over-the-counter drugs can relieve one or two of these ailments, but combining certain herbs can treat and relieve these symptoms in smaller doses. Herbal teas and extracts improve blood circulation and ease back pain. Brew and steep chamomile tea or take as a supplement daily. Take pineapple extract as an anti-inflammatory until pain eases, 2 to 3 grams a day. Take valerian, St. Johns Wort and Jamaican dogwood for the same results. Brew horsetail tea to regrow connective tissues, regulate the bowels and relieve lower back pain. Drink yarrow juice to build back muscles. Make a black or white mustard seed compress as a compress for heat therapy; use no longer than ten minutes. Rub the back with lobelia and cramp bark salve to ease arthritic back pain.

Best Wishes
Daquan Gibson
