Very sad, it could happen to any of us. It's generous of him to try to help research into the decease for future generations.

No i wasn't shocked, it is understandable that any human person can get Alzheimer's. I'm just deeply upset because his books have been a great source of entertainment for me. I just hope he doesn't suffer too much.

Yes, it's very sad. And so unfair that that ugly stupid cow JK Rowling, who can't write books, will probably live to be 100.

It's very sad indeed - although it was on the news when he was first diagnosed. He does seem very young to have it, he's only 59...

Yes, the news has been out for a while, though his donation has brought a new crop of stories and interviews.

On Radio 4 yesterday he said he had just sent off his latest manuscript, and had hopes of doing at least one more novel, depute his condition which he himself describes as "an emergence."

He has an rarer early-striking form of Alzheimer's, which is unlucky.
But we've all got to get something, sooner or later.
Early on, in the Light Fantastic, he described what happened to a wizard who tried to cheat Death.(URL3)
