I am anemic, and all you have to do is eat more foods with iron.

That's about it. It's not a quick fix - you need to be on the iron for a few months to get it back up to normal. However, iron pills can be constipating so make sure you get plenty of fiber and drink plenty of water. Some find taking a multivitamin with extra iron better or just increasing their dietary intake of iron rich foods like whole grains, beans and various vegetables.

Iron tablets are good, but be careful not to overdose on iron, that's dangerous. Spinach and other veggies have natural occuring iron in them. If your doctor says its o.k. to have a GOOD steak now and then, go for it. Have your doctor run more tests if all else fails to bring up your red blood cell count, because that's what is happening, your red blood cell count is low thus making you anemic. Check also if it runs in the family, but see your doctor o.k.

Hi,If you have been told that you are anemic than The treatment is Usually, iron deficiency is treated with iron tablets. Iron tablets should be taken after meals to avoid an upset stomach. Vitamin B12 or folic acid also can be given in tablet form. Any underlying disease that is causing the anaemia also needs to be treated.Care to be taken:Follow the doctor's advice for treating anaemia and any underlying cause:Take the medication for as long as advised.Eat well-balanced meals, three or four times a day. Meats, fish, and poultry have the most iron. Other foods high in iron include raisins, sweet potatoes, beans, green peas, pulses, enriched cereals and breads and green leafy vegetables.Females, particularly those with heavy menstrual periods, must have a higher intake of iron to prevent anaemia.
