Oh Dear God,I feel for you and him. I have gout and I have just had a spinal fusion done back in 2005. We just bought a Sealy PP Bodydream and I'll tell you what, I used to toss all night and since we bought this bed I fall asleep in one position and I wake up in the same one. I wouldn't go for the firm one at all. You want nice soft cussion whenever that acts up on him. When my gout hits, I cant even put a sheet on my foot it hurts that bad. Has he ever tried eating and drinking tart cherries in natural juices? I take colchicine wich nutralizes the uric acid buildup which is the same thing with his rheumatoid. The cherry juice doe the same thing and works wonders to help stop the pain on top of any medication he is takeing. We bought our bed at Sleepy's and scored a deal of a life time. Go to US Matteress dot com and use there comfort scale to find a bed in the 8-10 range. Shop in ther ultra plush section meaning euro top and look for the beds they have on sale. When I got mine this place had the one we got on sale for $705 with free delivery and no taxes + free removal of old bed. Sleepy's has a 20% price match on any bed so I printed this off the net and brought it into the place. The manager threw a fit because the mattress I wanted even on sale in there store was $1500 but I stuck to my guns and demanded the 20% less price of the cheapest advertised price I could find. All in all I got the mattress set up, to include tax and delivery for $564 total. Sears sells this same bed in the same king size we got right now on there web site for $1799. I would say that I walked out of there feeling like I just took over as the greatest (frugal) shopper in Sleepy's history. Dont be talked into buying there"custom"box spring either. Keep the one you have and use it unless your upgrading to a bigger size. You can get an idea of how big I am by my picture on this forum but I am also 6'5 311lbs and my wife is a little 5'4 130lb woman and the king size bed is perfect. WE even have our little one with us most of the time at night and there is so much room. The one thing about this bed is that the pillow/euro top is made of that super soft cotton. Its not rayon blend like the usual matteress you find in the stores. The total thickness of this matteress is almot 16 inches thick and 5 inches is the pillowtop that is so soft you are tempted to sleep on it without any sheets or cover. I almost bought one of those memory foam deals but after laying on several of them I found that they all are firm after the foam conforms to your body. To me it was uncomfortable and it was a pain to roll over after you sunk into your formed position. Another tid bit is buy your sheets at overstock. We bought 4 new king size sheet sets to include the fitting sheet, top sheet and 2 king size pillow cases with a 600TC for $39.99 each. What a deal and the comfot of these sheets was unlike I ever experianced before. I never fell for that high thread countthing until my wife convinced me to give them a try. Afterall, I was ready to spend about 60-80$ for some cotton rayon blend set at walmart that was 220TC. I am glad I took her advice as after we washed them and put the first set on the bed I had the best sleep I have ever had in my life. When my gout kicks in I dont think there is any bed on this earth that will ease the discomfort as the pain is so harsh but when your dealing with the general discomfort of rheumatoid when it isnt flared up comfot does improve your life.
