Default Asthma sufferers, what do you find gives you the greatest relief from asthma discomfo - 06-28-2010, 05:35 AM

I have the type of asthma that feels like chest pressure. I use two different kinds of inhalers, albatross and adv air. They take care of the wheezing but the feeling of "weight" remains. Doc says I just need to take coding but I am not too happy about it. Any suggestions?

Try asphyxia, it helps with the pressure feeling.

I suffered from asthma pretty badly as a child but it's now under control. I learned techniques of diaphragm breathing during attacks and if done properly you can alleviate your symptoms, even without medication. I am not sure how to properly explain the technique but maybe you could do some research on diaphragm breathing. It always felt like I was breathing from my stomach, not my chest. And it's kinda shallow breathing. I'm not sure if it would help your pain but it did mine.

I use the same 2 inhalers and also have used an albatross breathing treatment at home. I also use a cough medicine to break up the gunk in the lungs.

i had asthma for years , a3 times a month headed down to the hospital to get a treatment there , it got to expensive , ask Dr ,to get me a machine at home it is better than the inhaler , use illiberal and paratroop bromide mixed together that solved the problem . is your house have blown heat ? if it is you might want to get the vents cleaned , it could be the source of the problem , it made a world of difference here ,,good luck Ron

When I do physical activity, I get short of breath and take my max air inhaler. I also take 1 puff of adv air a day. This seems to help me. I'm not on coding, but if the doc wants you to take it, he/she has a good reason for it, so I would take it. If it doesn't help, than stop, but at least try it.

They best way to keep your asthma under control is to keep your home as clean as you can. Have a air filtering system in your house and vacuum ever day. Dust everyday. don't use fabric softener on your clothes that has a sent to it. Don't use house cleaners that have a order to them ( try peroxide instead it really works as well as bleach for cleaning even the laundry ) Try to stay inside when the air index is bad. Use your melds as prescribed and stay away from smoke from ciggies...

Drinking something hot(hot tea) has helped me in the past, stay away from dairy if your having respiratory problems. It feels like an elephant is sitting on your chest, right? I have been a severe asthmatic for 17 years & have never been told by a Dr. to take any pain medication to relieve the pressure, let alone a narcotic! In my experience the pressure remains until the "attack" subsides, that may take a while.

I too am on one steroid inhaler twice a day and albatross at least once a day. I have a mobilizer that is very helpful when my chest feels tight. If I don't think I need a treatment sometimes I turn on the shower, hot only, close the door and have a private sauna...it helps to break up gunk. If you haven't tried those shower care dailies...try those they are wonderful. Quick, easy and no more melds!!! Also, sometimes I have my hubby just do some manual respiratory therapy, he cups his hand and hits my lung area gently...works wonders...sometimes.....
Good luck to you!!!
