Default Depression and Bipolar disorder? - 10-14-2008, 10:55 AM

I was diagnosed with depression believed to be linked to me having health issues (cervical cancer) according to my doctor. Although depression is often found in women with CC I do not believe that that is all there is to it in my case. My mom's friend is a doctor and he said to me that I may be bipolar instead of just having normal depression. Since him telling me that I have read about bipolar disorder and I do have alto of the symptoms but they are so much like depression it's hard to tell. Does anyone know of any good websites about the two or does anyone have any personal experience with bipolar disorder?
Also, what is manic depression and how is it linked to bipolar disorder?

yeah my woman's bi-polar.
There is so much that can stem for that disorder it's not funny. There are some good melds though that can really calm it down. just let your doctor or psychiatrist know your concerns.

Below is a copy of notes I have taken from a previous question on similar problem. use them to discover more
Bi polar notes.

Terry writes:-
I am bipolar and all of us can be hard to live with if we are not receiving proper treatment. It is not our intent to be difficult. A chemical imbalance in our brains causes us to react differently to situations than a normally functioning person does. We have sudden and unexpected mood changes. Anger out bursts are common. But still it is no excuse, we are still responsible for our behavior.

The web site links I am providing below are very good. Please check them out. They can provide you with skills on coping with a loved one or helping them to cope and seek treatment.

I hope I have helped. I wish you both good luck.

If you wish to ask me more or just need to talk contact me at tls3123283@yahoo.com

Sincerely,
Terry

Manic depression and Bipolar disorder are the same thing,, in early years it was called manic depression,, now we call it bipolar.

somethings to remember about BP, is there are several forms of the disorder,, the two most common are bi polar type 1 and 2, ( although I think there are about 20 different types) type 1 is your typical mood swings,, marked highs followed by lows,, the highs and lows usually last about the same amount of time ,, or the highs last longer than the Lowe's. the highs tend to be Little more extreme than the Lowe's.
type 2 (which is me) is the opposite,, the lows are more intense, the highs are there but much fewer, and can go years between highs. me for example had a extreme High about 7 yrs ago that lasted about 6 month es and nothing much since then,, some hypo manic times but that's it.

Webmd is a great site for information and message boards where you can connect with others just like you. and there is a wealth of information and links there.

I would recommend reading as much information on the disorder as you can. Don't just jump to your first DX and believe it 100% I have had about 4 Dx's and am finally comfortable with mine. I am on melds and doing ok.
