Default About Somatic Disorder? Mom suffers from EVERYTHING - 01-04-2009, 11:22 AM

My mother claims to have Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrom, Irritable Bowel Sydrome, Syncope, Depression, Attention Deficit Disorder, Colitis, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Seizures, Degenerative Disk Disorder, recurrent blindness, tachycardia, and other things too numerous to mention. She seems to have"attacks"of these things when she feels snubbed or if someone around her is sick and getting attention. Anyone else suspicious?

it does sound suspicious, as all of those disease symptoms can be self-induced or caused by stress. Read up on Munchausen syndrome, and see if you can't get her to a counselor.

Bless your heart! She needs to let her diagnosis go and start living her life. I think I would ask her,"So, how's that working for you?"the next time she rattles off her symptoms.
