Default BURN!! help? - 12-16-2008, 02:01 AM

Its nothing serious but the pain is killing me. I just got burned with a hot hot plate from the microwave. Normally the pain would go away but this time it is burning like hell. It hurts sooo much. Please tell me a home remedy for it. Its a first degree burn.

Ok here is what you do, run it under cold water for 20 minute. I mean 20 minutes, time yourself, you will get really bored, but it needs to stay under there the whole time. COLD WATER. alright once that is done you are going to ointment the area, do not use butter or any dary products, it will cook the burn more, use aloe or a burn ointment, you can find them in most first aid kits. but get off the computer and to the sink NOW

Make sure to rinse and wash with mild soap so there is nothing on the skin that could continue to burn it. A cold wash cloth or cold running water and then you can use a topical cream neosoporin will take the pain away. good luck and don't pop the blister or pick at it, can make it infected

Registered Nurse here; First run cold water over the area for approximately 15 minutes, this will assist in cooling the area and prevent further burning. While running water over the area, have someones (if someone is with you), get you a couple of Tylenol, or ibuprofen. This will start to diminishes the pain as well. After running the cold water over area, apply light amount of ice, not a lot of ice for this will be to heavy and cause additional pain. When pain has subsided, apply light coating of butter to the area, this is strictly home remedy. Silva dine cream is the medication of choice for burns. You have my word as a professional nurse, applying butter will not cook your burn.

Do not, under any circumstances, apply butter to a burn. Bad, bad idea. Run it under cold water for a long time (I think 20 minutes was mentioned above, and that sounds about right). Then apply some aloe to the burn, if you have access to it. You could also take some Tylenol or Ibuprofen (Motrin) for the pain.
