Default Chemotherapy & hair. Any suggestions for dull, lifeless hair post chemo for lung canc - 07-07-2010, 02:41 AM

I am currently taking an oral chemo (Tarceva) daily. Altho my hair is slowly growing back, it is dull and lifeless, no shine at all. I don't mind the darker color - will fix that in time. But the dullness looks like a rag on my head. Of course, my family tells me that my hair looks "fine". We all know what THAT means. Any suggestions on how to add shine and life to my hair will be greatly appreciated.

You could try Citra-shine or a product like that. Won't fix it, but might make it look shiner. Best of luck with your treatment!

I am going Thur the same thing right now! I know what you are talking about. I have stressed and cried for hours about this!

My hair is coming back really thin and baby fine. I also have a huge white streak in the front. Everyones hair comes back different. The good news is... it comes back!

First of all, a good cut works wonders. I am keeping my once think and waist length hair short - a chin length bob, which makes it look thick.

Second, when you color your hair, it adds so much more body and thickness to the hair. It looks so much better, even if you use a level 1, temp. color.

There are also glosses you can have applied to your hair - they are like coloring, but last a long time between washings, and add texture and shine.

You could try some of the silicon based shine products that you spritz on wet hair, but they make your hair slippery and leave it limp. Not the best look for short hair.

Good luck - and remember... there still are alto of lovely scarves on the net for sale! I left you some! ha ha ha

In time it should recover the longer your melds have been stopped. It can take months afterward, though.

Please be careful of any product you put on your hair at this time since it's very sensitive now to any chemicals or harsher treatment -- you don't want to further damage the brittle new regrowth. Avoid any harsh chemicals, hot rollers or irons, even high temp blow drying.

Some of mine is falling out now and I will shave it soon before it gets obvious. I reordered lots of scarves and head coverings to use until I'm satisfied with the regrowth.

I don't know how much growth you have back now, but have you been to a stylist for a cute short style if it's long enough to style? Just a new style with what short hair we have can make us feel so much better about the lifeless regrowth until our hair recovers, too.

If it bothers you until the luster returns, then I'm with another poster who suggested scarves, or even turbans, or cute pageboy caps, and even *nice* monumentnetgs. They all look great with a hawt pair of earrings.

I'm sure your family does mean it when they say it looks fine. I'm sure it does to them because it is on their loved one, who is still with them!

All the best in your treatment and recovery.
