There is no medical proof that it does but a lot of people will argue that it does but why only smoke what about car exhaust fumes that seep into the car when driving it that cause cancer more than smoking or radon gas that seeps from the ground into your home, alcohol can cause liver and stomach cancer - I could fill a page with various things or lifestyle that cause all types of cancer more than smoking does? My grandfather was 60 when he died of lung cancer and he never smoked, my father was 73 when he developed lung cancer and survived, died at 76 with stomach cancer and he was a smoker.

There is a large and growing body of scientific evidence that second hand smoke (environmental tobacco smoke - ETS - is the 'technical term') is associated with increased risks for many life-threatening diseases, such as lung cancer, heart disease and COPDs.

As an example, 2ND hand smoke has been shown to cause the same type of DNA damage (damage to Tumor Suppressor Gene p53 - the 'Guardian of the Genome') as occurs in actual cigarette smokers. See the last link below.

Here are some actual scientific papers on this subject.

Best wishes and good luck in avoiding smoke!

I also have issues with lung cancer. I posted my question on wish123 and got an answer from an expert who solved my problem. Highly recommend the website.

Cancers that are closely linked to certain behaviors are the easiest to prevent. If you are a current tobacco user, quitting can still greatly reduce your chances of getting cancer. The most important preventive measure you can take to avoid lung cancer is to quit smoking.

Many products such as nicotine gum, nicotine sprays, nicotine inhalers have been successfully used to help people trying to quit smoking.

A person who smokes more than one pack of cigarettes per day has a risk of developing lung cancer 20-25 times greater than someone who has never smoked.

Over the past couple of years, the secondhand smoke argument has been considered and argued endlessly. The new tobacco control legislation, called the Smoke-Free Ontario proceed, as well as banning people from smoking in public locations, prohibits smokers from smoking at their work location as well. So smoking is really effected in for your lung and they increase the risk of lung cancer.
