I'm sorry, I know this is a difficult time for you&your Mom.Since she is in Stage I, that means it hasn't spread. That's awesome news, and you both should be really encouraged by that. By removing the uterus (hysterectomy), the cancer will be removed, too. When they do the surgery, they'll do biopsies of tissue all around the uterus (fallopians, ovaries, etc.) to check if it's spread. The results of those biopsies will determine if further treatment (radiation or chemo) is needed.By catching it this early, Stage I, she has an excellent prognosis by doing the hysterectomy. As with most cancers, catching it early is critical. Luckily, we can live....and live WELL....without a uterus.Take notes during all doctor appts.....you'll be glad you did. Often, there are so many details, and medical terms, it's easy to get overwhelmed. Read all you can, don't be afraid to question her doctor(s), and keep a positive attitude. It really makes a difference, trust me.Try not to panic, and just take one day (and one doctor appointment) at a time. It's easy to let your imagination lead you into all sorts of terrible scenarios, so stop yourself. One step at a time, okay? Read up on hysterectomies, and plan some nice things for your Mom, for after the surgery. New sheets, music, good food, rest, and LAUGHTER will help her on her way.All the best to you both....
