As I understand Cystic Fibrosis...for someone to have cystic fibrosis the disease, both parents must be carriers of it.So, I am not sure why the father is not being tested...once two people who are carriers of the gene make a baby, there is a one in 4 chance the child will be born with the disease. I believe the Baby has to recieve both genes for the defect to occur. If you are really concerned about the possibility of cystic fibrosis cropping up in your children, absolutely get tested but, remember there are two sides to the equation and any father of your children would need to be tested as well.

Cystic fibrosis or CF, is a hereditary disease that mainly affects to the breathing and the digestion. as your sister suffers of CF is probable that suffers her baby, but does not mean she must suffer that it. The diagnostic CF by means of a test of sweat or with genetic tests being used a blood sample or saliva. In many cases, the diagnostic CF during the first six months of life of the boy.

CF is a recessive genetic disease. This means, your sister and the baby's father both must be carriers of the disease. Your sister obviously is a carrier, because she has it, and the father of her child may or may not have the gene for CF. If he doesn't, then the baby will be fine. Also, since your sister has CF, you could have it too. Though, there's only a 25% chance you have it.

There is a very small chance that you have CF(25%). However, if you have had an abnormal amount of lung infections/sinus infections, greasy poop, or a cough (for several years) than you might want to be tested. Your sisters baby will be tested after born, as is law in most states now (CF was finally added to the list of things newborns are tested for). In order for the baby to have CF, the father would also have to be a carrier, then there is a 25% chance. If you have more questions about CF in general please feel free to contact me. Have a good day!!!
