Default What are the chances of dying in a car accident? - 12-22-2008, 09:28 AM

What are the chances of getting into a car accident on any given day you decide to go out driviing? What are the chances of dying in said accident?I've been in one before, so it's not like it's a NEW experience. The accident was not my fault and I was a passenger, but I'm beginning to drive on my own and am still terrified of highways...

i wouldn't look at the chances, because accidents can always be avoided or they can always be properly reacted to. if your the driver then just be cautious, don't be freaked out about driving there. i know past accidents can be scary and might be your worst fear, of getting in another one. but still the chances are slim somone will hit you, you just watch out for yourself and use your mirrors and don't focus on small things, focus on the big picture, meaning everything around you; youll be ok.

The only way to prevent and accident is to drive defensively ... always keep your eye out of the other drivers out there. Most accidents happen close to home as they say. I don't think there is anything you could ever do to prevent an accident however ... you simply cannot control the actions of other drivers ... only your own actions and reactions.Your chances of not dying in an accident are greatly decreased by using the safety systems installed in your car ... such as the seat belt. Air bags also save lives ... I have seen this first hand as a paramedic over the past 17 years. I would also add that some cars stand up better in crashes than others.Goodluck and becareful out there ... I am sure you are going to be an excellent driver.

If you spend all your time worrying about it you become your own worse hazard. Learn to think positive and drive defensively. Consider taking a defensive driving course DDC, military personnel, other federal employees and some states , state employees are required to attend these classes every so many years if they operate government vehicles or drive on government property. These classes are very informative and can instill alot of confidence in defensive driving techniques PS above all wear your seat belts

Odds of dying in a car accident is about one out of 6500.Therefore your lifetime probability (6500 รท 78 years life expectancy) of dying in a motor accident are about one in 83.

More than driving defensively is driving without distraction. Ensure that you are handsfree and concentrated on driving ONLY!
