Default Could high blood pressure problems be caused in part by dental issues.? - 12-12-2008, 04:51 AM

My daughter is 36 weeks pregnant and before she found out she was pregnant had planned on having her wisdom teeth pulled. She decided to wait until after the baby is born, but these last few weeks her bp has skyrocketed. She will be on bedrest, I am sure, by the next dr. appointment, but she is wondering if these dental issues might be part of the problem. I don't think they would be as much as a family history which she certainly does have. Any ideas?

There is no evident that your daugher's dental issues have any correlation with her high blood pressure. It is more likely that her pregnancy may have to do with the high blood pressure. Dental anxiety may cause your blood pressure to go up, but is not permanent. Your daughter needs to talk to her OBGYN. Good luck.

sounds like she has preeclampsia, Preeclampsia is a serious complication of pregnancy associated with the development of high blood pressure and protein in the urine. Women diagnosed with preeclampsia may also complain of blurred vision, headaches, extreme swelling, and experience greater than normal weight gain. Toxemia is a common name used to describe preeclampsia. The most common symptom and hallmark of preeclampsia is high blood pressure. This may be the first or only symptom. Blood pressure may be only minimally elevated initially, or can be dangerously high; symptoms may or may not be present. However, the degree of blood pressure elevation varies from woman to woman and also varies during the development and resolution of the disease process. There are also some women who never have significant blood pressure elevation.
