Default Amalgam Removal FAQ's - 05-17-2013, 03:42 AM

One of the major services I offer as a holistic dentist at my dental practice in noida is safe amalgam removal.

So it doesn't come as a surprise that I am frequently asked questions like: "What is amalgam removal? Why is it done? What is involved? Is getting my amalgams replaced difficult? Should I get my amalgams removed? Is it expensive? How long will removing my amalgams take? What else do I need to do?"

In this post "Amalgam Removal FAQ's" I will aim to address and answer those questions.

Firstly let's start by looking at what amalgam is: dental amalgam is a filling material that has been used by dentists for nearly 200 years. Have a peek inside your mouth, see those silver metal fillings, often placed in your back teeth, those are amalgam.

Dental amalgam is a mixture of silver, copper, tin and other metals mixed with 50% or more MERCURY!

Mercury is a toxic heavy metal and is detrimental to health yet dentists are trained to mix it as a filling material and implant it into your teeth - so it must be safe then, right? Not exactly ......

Studies have shown that the mercury from the filling vaporizes and leaches from the filling over its lifetime. This mercury vapor then enters you blood stream via the lungs where it passes quickly into your cells and into your brain and other organs. Once mercury is in your system it is difficult for your body to get rid of it and here in lies the problem.

Mercury is the most toxic of the heavy metals and having it your body can lead to a whole host of complications and potential health issues. This is why holistic dentistry advocates amalgam removal.

The amalgam fillings act as a reservoir for mercury, constantly drip feeding day after day more and more mercury into your body. Having amalgam fillings in your teeth makes it harder for your body to remove mercury from its tissues and cells so more and more mercury accumulates over time.

Now please don't just rush out to your nearest dentist and demand they take your fillings out!

The most significant volumes of mercury get released from your filling at the time when it is drilled due to the massive amount of friction that drilling creates. Friction and heat of any kind from chewing, hot food and drinks, brushing your teeth, clenching and grinding and especially the dentist drill causes mercury to vaporize from the amalgam. That mercury vapor coming off your filling via the drill ends up being inhaled by you and the dental team themselves and can be more harmful than if you had simply left the filling alone.

The removal and replacement of amalgam needs to be done carefully and safely and by a dentist who understands the implications of mercury.

Is Amalgam Removal Difficult?

The process itself is quite straight forward as like in any other dental procedure we numb your mouth, drill and then put a new filling in. The difference with a holistic dentist is that we also use very strict safety protocols to ensure we minimize your and our exposure to the mercury vapor that is released at the time.

Essentially what is involved is the use of a barrier sheet over your mouth to prevent the ingestion, swallowing and inhalation of amalgam fragments, amalgam dust and mercury vapor. The barrier sheet or rubber dam covers your mouth but not your nose and you can easily breath and swallow normally during the process.

We also use a ducting/vacuuming filter to draw away the mercury vapor to ensure no one in the treatment room is inhaling this potential highly toxic substance.

At Dental Remedies - Dental Clinic in Noida, amalgam removal is only ever carried out after an extensive consultation and dental examination involving a full mouth check up, dental x-rays where indicated, assessment of your dental health and your overall health and health history.

It is important that anyone undergoing dental amalgam removal supports themselves with a nutrient dense diet and specific supplements before, during and for a period after their amalgams have been replaced. This is essential to assist the body to cope with the mercury detoxification process and maximize the benefits of treatment.

For many patients we liaise with you health care practitioner so as best to support you through the process and can also recommend highly qualified practitioners to assist your mercury detoxification and chelation (heavy metal removal).

Is amalgam removal difficult? No.

Is amalgam removal important if your care about your health? I think so.

Thanks for sharing such a nice information. Amalgam removal is not so easy and safe and it`s true that your dentist must be able to remove. Dentist must be professional and may know all safety measures while doing so. I know some good dentists in Diamond Bar CA who are professional and may treat you well.
