Default What are some natural safe remedies for depression? - 12-18-2008, 09:59 PM

My friend is autistic and has severe clinical depression unfortuanately just about everything his docs give him has caused really horrible side effects. They're still working on something safe but in the mean time he's dealing with some really serious depression. What are some safe natural inexpensive remedies for depression. I'm really worried about him and want to help. If you have any suggestions I'd really appriciate it.

st johns wort...although, you have to be careful because supplements are not done through FDA regulations. stick to name brands.

lots of daylight and oxygen - it will not cure it, but help.I would advise against you (as a non-medical person) recommending drugs (natural or synthetic), since you have no way of knowing all side-effects, but if you take your friend outdoors for activities during lunchbreak, you should see a slight improvement after about 2 weeks.

Read "You Can Cure Your Depression" By Dr. Blair Masters. It's all about natural supplements and other natural, holistic methods of curing depression. It also has a lot of information on the causes of depression so you can cure the causes and not just the symptoms.

Hi blood_drop2013 My name is Mary, I sympathize with you and your friends situation, I am a sufferer of depression and have a son on the spectrum, many of the techniques I have been using are of great assistance to both me and my son. As corny as it sounds deep breathing (really focusing and using the diaphragm not just the chest muscles) is very beneficial 10 deep breaths 3 times a day is recommended also regular exercise, walking or even better is jumping on a trampoline! this really helps. Also making sure you drink plenty of water (8 glasses) a day can drastically help improve mood.

st johns wort
high dose of B vitamins (b12)
think about go to a hospital and take a behavior and cognitive therapy or curse, it may change your life, not just depression
