Default This question is for people that have fibromyalgia! My bf has fibromyalgia & i have a - 04-02-2010, 09:28 PM

I know first off usually men do not get fibromyalgia. My bf is so stressed out cause of all the pain hes in constantly. He is only 30. He is taking pain killers to & that's not really cutting the stress or the pain. I mean hes taking like 4 (10/325) endocets per day. Not at one time but during a full day. The doctor put him on some kinda medication i think its klonapin or something like that to relax him & help him sleep. That sorta worked. I think they were the 1/2 milligram of them. His body got adjusted to them pretty quick. So he would of had to take more of them u know. I didn't want him to chance doing that fearing he could get hooked on them & withdraw from them. I understand what hes going threw & i actually try to help him find techniques to help him out like being on yahoo answers & asking questions. I have told him to get a better diet like to cut out pop & sugars & red meat. Hes not really listening with that either. I've got him to take vitamins i am not sure if those are working for him. I believe i have him taking vitamin a, e, fish oil, c & a few more. I told him he needs to relax & try yoga or meditation. He don't want to try it cause he don't think that will work either. I am at edge & almost ready to snap cause the help i try to get him hes not trying & he don't know what to do either. I think honestly he has had fibromyalgia for at least 10 years now. He has not been diagnosed yet but i am pretty sure that's what he has. The pain & the trigger points & all the system's mimic of what he has. I know alot of u that have fibromyalgia have been threw what i have been threw. What do i do?How do i help him?I am trying every thing i can do. I've looked up stuff online about the condition & how to help him but hes not willing to try fearing they wont work & then be disappointed.
He is also on paxil 50 milligrams. I know they prescribe those types of meds to people that have fibromyalgia. I just figured i would mention that. Other then the endocets & paxil & klonapin hes not on any other meds then that. Hes a daily pot smoker to & ive heard that that can help some times to. LIke i said earlier i think hes had this for over 10 years & is now figuring out he has this. He has no idea what to do. I know he has to be seen by a neurologist & a roomatologist to( i know that's not how u spell it but lol)But any ways please help what can i do to help him or advise on what he can do to help himself.

I have observed people who use marijuana to eventually suffer from depression.

Magnesium relaxes muscles. Magnesium phosphate assists smooth transmission of nerve impulses. Magnesium is found in almonds, dates and other foods. It is also found in supplements.

Seriously, from everything you said, he's going about day to day life the wrong way. The first thing he needs to do is cut out salicylic acid from his life. This means not only eliminating aspirin, but also eliminating other things like Pepto Bismol, shampoos, conditioners, deodorants, and any other personal care product that you can think of including lotion that contain salicylic acid. People with Fibromyalgia absorb it Thur their skin into their blood stream too rapidly and it can really make a difference when you start eliminating all of it, and I mean all of it from your life.

The second thing is to eliminate all traces of "excess" metals you can. This includes things like titanium dioxide found in deodorants and other personal care products. People with Fibromyalgia tend to absorb these excess metals faster and end up with metal poisoning.

The third thing is to eliminate the pain killers that he is taking, they will actually make his Fibromyalgia (if that is indeed what he has) worse over time and can lead to other medical conditions that can further complicate Fibromyalgia. It can be hard to get Thur a day without pain medication when you have Fibromyalgia, but if you absolutely cannot, then you should take Tylenol, and ask the doctor for a muscle relaxer instead in a very low dose (even half a tablet is successful for long term pain relief) of something like Flexerall or some equivalent. The results will be much better in the long run then the pain killers which will increase the pain. Also, avoid the marijuana, your actually making the pain worse in using it. If he drinks alcohol or smokes cigarettes, he needs to stop both of those as well, all of these things will worsen Fibromyalgia.

As for foods to avoid, avoid anything with artificial sweeteners, but especially anything containing aspartame which has been known to increase the frequency of Fibromyalgia symptoms. Avoid food additives (basically anything found in food that is not found in nature) but especially avoid MSG (monosodium glutamine) and all types of nitrates and sulfates and sulfites found in foods and beverages. Also there is a strong need to avoid fructose, corn syrup, and similar ingredients which will exacerbate the symptoms of Fibromyalgia. Caffeine is the hardest one for many, because it includes giving up soda, coffee, and chocolate all at the same time. It makes the largest difference when you are a Fibromyalgia sufferer. Yeast and gluten are two other important things to avoid as much as possible, if not all together. Use only skim milk and avoid dairy products like cheese that do not contain skim milk. Avoid whole milk and ice cream, two large Fibromyalgia triggers. You should avoid tomatoes, chili peppers, bell peppers, potatoes, and eggplant as much as possible as well, all of which will exacerbate Fibromyalgia.

Instead of taking individual vitamins (with the exception of fish oil capsules) you should take a strong multi vitamin that does not contain iron (too much iron can exacerbate Fibromyalgia and iron is found in many foods that you likely already eat). Look for a vitamin that lists only gelatin under inactive ingredients, as fillers can also increase Fibromyalgia symptoms. You should also take a strong probiotic daily, it should be a good probiotic (usually indicated by high numbers of good bacteria and the requirement that it be stored in the fridge). Also Move Free Advanced is a wonderful chondritin and glucosamine supplement that works wonders for people with Fibromyalgia.

And finally, read the book The Fibromyalgia Solution A Breakthrough Approach To Heal Your Body And Take Back Your Life by David Dryland. It will be the only book that you will ever need to read about Fibromyalgia, and you will keep refering back to it as your daily guide to living with Fibromyalgia. Surround yourself with a good support system so that you can talk to others about what you are experiencing, keep a log of the pain and the foods you eat, and get a good doctor and you will make living with Fibromyalgia tolerable.

Dear concerned:

Well, your boy friend seems to be many things, but one thing is for sure, he have to change and must be willing to change.

Some simple recommendations:

1. Get a good doctor: some doctors will give you tales of the inevitable, just like Michale Jackson old lawyers. Which dragged on years.

2. Sweet girl, don't over stress yourself. You can't save those who don't want to be saved. I know that you love him, but does he know? Or even cared?

3. It could be the side effect of pot. Whatever he's experiencing plus the side effects of the drugs. Take him off drugs for a week. See if that improves his health.

4. I had some fibroid removed before. Its a simple operation. Just make sure your medical bill is covered by health insurance or medicaid.

5. Please calm down. Worrying and panicking will not help. Do some brainstorming, figure out your strategy. Examp: How to keep boy friend alive, how not to hurt his feelings, trying not to kill him if he resists, etc. etc.

6. If he's not willing to try, you have some options. Cut him off from some of his favorite things.

7. He must be willing to help himself. Or pressured by you or someone he loves to seek help. Intervention.

Hope some of my advice will help you.

Live long and prosper, and stay sane.
