Default Is this Fibromyalgia or not? - 12-06-2008, 08:56 PM

Over the past 3 months I have had 3 quite nasty viruses and after the 3rd one I was left feeling completely exhausted to the point where I couldn't even dress myself or do everyday normal things, even walking up the stairs would make me really out of breath and tired. I went to my GP had a full blood screen and all the tests showed nothing apart from a very slightly under active Thyroid, which I am being re tested for in 2 months because they think it was only low because I had a virus when they took my blood samples. I was then diagnosed with Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome.
Just over 3 weeks ago I started getting very tight stabbing pains in my chest & one night they got so bad that I had to go to A&E. They put me on an ECG machine and measured my blood pressure and they said there was no problem with my heart. I then went to my GP and she said that I had Costochondritis which is inflammation of the cartilage between my ribs. She gave me Anti Inflmatries and said that it would clear up within 2 weeks. These didn't relieve the pain at all & it has now got worse and has spread all over my body. I went to the doctor yesterday and she has given me more painkillers to try (I have taken 4 lots of them and so far they haven't done anything yet) I have to go back again in 10 days to see if I have improved or not.
I have read about Fibromyalgia and I have quite a few symptoms of it and was wondering if anyone could give me further advice.

My symptoms are
- Fatigue
- Pain all over my body especially in my ribs, lower back, hips and inside of my arms. (if I press these certain places it feels as if they are bruised)
- Loss of concentration
- Weak
- Stiffness especially in the mornings
- Unrefeshed sleep
- Ringing in my ears
- Dizzyness/ Vertigo
- I have also been refer ed to the hospital because I have TMJ and I have heard that having this is very common in Fibromyalgia sufferers.

If anyone could help I would really appreciate it

There is no test to conclusively diagnosis fibromyalgia. That said, there are conditions that can be misdiagnosed for a condition that can't actually be conclusively proven. Ahh that's modern medicine for you lol. If the doctor did not do a full thyroid panel, then you need to request it. TSH, free T3, free T4 and thyroid antibodies TPO and TgAb. The TSH alone isn't the best indicator of thyroid issues.

these are symptoms of many things

wait for the thyroid recheck

look up Lyme Literate MD

be sure its not Mono--you need the full EBV panel--not just the MonoSpot test

having a virus puts a lot of stress of your ribs with coughing/vomiting and it could take awhile to get better

they probably only did basic blood tests...they need to do more focused testing

its too early to seriously consider FMS--you need a better blood work up and more Tim
