Default one-off bleeding, transverse colon - 06-22-2013, 08:40 PM

I don't know if this is the right forum, but I've posted on IBS forums, and everyone is baffled, so perhaps someone here has some thoughts.

During my normal exercise and daily routine, I never run. But a few weeks ago I was on a hike around 5pm and decided to do a full-out sprint for about 100 yards. Ran as fast and hard as I could on hilly terrain, something I had not done in probably ten years (I'm 41.)

The next morning, my bowel movements with approximate times were as follows:
- 8am normal
- 10am normal
- 11am urgent need to go. visible blood in stool. reddish blood, neither bright nor maroon
- 2pm normal

There was no pain associated with the incident.

So, a one-off occurrence of blood in stool. No visible blood before, and none since. It seems obvious that the previous afternoon's exercise caused something to bleed, and based on the timing it probably took place in the transverse colon.

The question is: how and what? I've tried to visualize the mechanics of it, and I can't think of what it could be.
