friend and i are debating about it. we're part of the DEP program for the USMC and he's thinking about getting lasik eye surgery. will he be able to? trust me he has really bad eye sight.
I would just wait until your in, because it is free.Once you get to your unit you can ask to have it. You will be on a waiting list, the last i've heard was 6 months since everyone who can get it , is getting it.
NO - do not get Lasik eye surgerythat procedure basically cuts a flap under the top of your eye and if you are knocked around too hard that flap may come loose - again do NOT get the surgery - at least before you join and get an official decisionthere is also another technique called PRK which is safer under combat situations - this basically scrapes away part of your corona (spelling??) to make your sight better - this is a more combat friendly eye surgery techniquefinal - DO NOT GET IT DONE BEFORE you join - once you are part of the Corps you can get more official advice and decisionswhatever you do - good luck with the DEP - i was about to join but i got ROTC =) - Hoorah!
I would suggest that you talk with a Marine recruiter, first. The Navy might already have a Lasik program to correct vision. If this is the case, your friend could save a few thousand bucks in the cost for Lasik if the Navy does it free !The navy takes care of all USMC medical care !
