In a school context, can OCD count as a learning disorder? If not, does that mean that accommodations cannot be made? Please include sources (or suggestions for finding some) if possible.
I don't know that it would necessarily be classified as a learning disorder directly, but it certainly makes sense that the need to perform obsessive behaviors might interfere with the learning process and be distracting.
OCD is more of a psychiatric disorder. Rather than a learning disorder, the student might be classified as emotionally disturbed, so that they could receive services under IDEA. But if you are a school administrator or parent, check IDEA regulations to be sure, as there can be legal ramifications.
Question #1: OCD is not a learning disorder.Question #2: See answer to Question #1Question #3: No it doesn't mean that at all. When a child has been identified with OCD, school staff need to be educated and trained in management strategies.Run a search for"school management of OCD".
I don't believe it's counted as a learning disorder, however, it can impede learning. I mean, what if you get distracted...excuse me, I have to dust my TV screen for the sixth time or someone I love will die.
