Default Menopause and sex drive? - 06-25-2009, 10:22 PM

I can live with the hot flashes, but I want my sexy back. Just started going through the change. I read that hormone therapy has numerous risks. Are their any supplements or non prescription melds to bring back my sex drive?
(I am in a commit ed relationship, and he is well endowed.)

Some women will use a testosterone cream. You should see a doctor about it first though. There are prescription forms and some OTC ones, but remember those aren't regulated by the FDA so they might not work as well. If you haven't read any books on the subject, that might help too. Maybe look at Our Bodies, Ourselves. Not all women will lose their sex drive for a long time. If you are not in a committed relationship then you can take comfort in knowing that the women that seek out new sex partners report the best sex drives. If you are in a relationship, then talk to your partner about what you are going through and see if there is anything you can both agree on that would be new and interesting to get you both excited. But it will be important to wait for your drive to come back, it is not an overnight thing.

A well-hung man

Seriously, I heard of something on the radio called Viaprin. It supposed to be like Viagra only uni-sex.

I guess it depends on the types of melds you're taking. Just ask your doctor about the different types and what they can do to your body and hormones.

I wouldn't recommend hormone therapy with all those risks that are out there.

The risks of hormone therapy are greatly exaggerated. The risk of cancer rises from 43/1000 to 44/1000 which is a blip. There are many health benefits from using hormones including lower cholesterol, better bone health, fewer heart attacks, improved libido, less depression and lower risk of osteoarthritis which can be fatal. Estrogen governs the entire female body and to simply deprive yourself of it because of an evolutionary mistake is to risk your health and quality of life in many ways.
