Default Is aspergers also tied in with obsessive compulsive disorder? - 12-19-2008, 05:38 PM

I have Asperger's Syndrome. It says in my IEP for school that I show compulsive behavior. Is Aspergers some how connected with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?

It seems to me like there is a link between Aspergers/autism and obseesive compulsive disorder and ADHD. I have 2 kids with autism and have been reading a lot of info on the computer from other parents. It seems like the above mentioned conditions go together quite frequently.

Many individuals with Aspergers tend to display symptoms of OCD and in fact, sometimes get misdiagnosed as OCD when really, they have Asperger's Syndrome. The repetitive things displayed from Aspergers can make someone think you have OCD, when truly, its just the symptoms from Aspergers and not OCD. OCD alone has the need to do things a certain way-- but doesn't display social aspect difficulties in relationships/communication, etc. Though, since you probably display difficulties in social, communication and need to have things in order (don't like change), then you're probably just accurate with an Asperger diagnosis, though if you display need for things to be the same ALONE, then you'd have an OCD diagnosis, though diagnosis can overlap and manifest the same symptoms and at times, if strong enough for a given time frame- then you can meet the criteria for both disorders, but this doesn't necessarily mean you meet both disorders. I'd recommend having your parents request further testing if you have any concerns. Good luck!

Yes it is.Some nutritional suppliments may help with this. The B-complex 100 caps.A good vitamin and mineral capsule.Choline and inositol have helped some people with obsessive compulsive disorder. They are B vitamins and the B-vitamins work best as a team,so get the B-100 caps. You may also benefit from 5HTP.Also cheak out some of the autism biomed groups on yahoo groups. Some of the treatments being used to treat autisic kids can also benefit those with aspergers.

Yes it is. Many people with aspergers also have OCD. This is a question you should ask at your IEP meeting. Don't be afraid to speak up and ask questions at your IEP....it is YOUR meeting and it is about YOU.
