Default Is there a way to treat OCD without going to a phyciatrist? - 12-26-2008, 10:29 PM

I have OCD and it's been really bad lately. I want to get help, but I don't want to ask my dad to take me to a phyciatrist because he has some ignorant feelings on mental disorders. Is there a way where you can just get rid of it yourself?

I suffered with OCD for a few years in my late teens. I beat it by not doing"rituals"between certain times and then building up from that. Example: I'd not do any rituals between 0900-0915; then 1200-1215, and so on. Then I'd make the period longer than 15 minutes to 20, 30, etc. It was difficult at first, but I did it.There are probably books you can get that will give you better advice and solutions and also a broader understanding of the causes.Don't beat yourself up about it. It's a common disorder and can be dealt with. If possible, get professional help.
