You need to see your doctor who can recommend a therapist and possibly prescribe a medication such as Zoloft, Effexor, Paxil etc.

Go to your doctor and get a prescription. Think of this as a medical condition. If you had high blood pressure, would you take medicine? If you had diabetes, would you take insulin? This is the same thing. You need medicine to control this medical problem. You will feel much better. You've suffered long enough. Call your doctor's office today.

Absolutely! First, if you've had them badly enough and long enough that you are agoraphobic now, you need to start with some medication. There are a whole bunch of them which can almost completely eliminate them. Then, when you can go out again, you need to combine the medication with therapy, since there are a lot of very simple techniques which can help you learn to deal with them. The actual state that you define as a panic attack may not ever be completely gone, but you will learn to define it as something else, so it won't be a panic attack any more.Good luck!

Yes yes and yes!!! I have had them for over a year, maybe 2 years and my family has a history of having them. At first I was just like you, I was scared to leave my house and go to work but I did anyways, I had to, but I went to a doctor and my doctor checked me out to make sure that I didnt have anything wrong with me like with me heart or lungs, she did find that my thyroid was not acting right but thats it. She then put me on prozac and I have been on it for about 1 month now and I am doing great. I can leave my house and be alone and be just the way I was. When I started taking the prozac she refered me to a therapist and I started seeing her and she help me with them and on how to control them and overcome them. I would reccomend that you see a doc and get everything checked out, just to make sure your ok. THen see a therapist and talk to her/him and they will be able to see why you have them and get you on some meds and if you dont want to take meds they can help you on overcoming them naturallybut that will be more hard and longer to do. But yes you can overcome them it just takes time and patience. also just remember that a panic attack cannot and will not kill you or hurt you or make you have a stroke or heart attack. No one has ever died from one or was harm from one. Good Luck and if you need anyone to talk to you can email me

There is hope and I invite you to write me so that I can discuss it with you more. Treatment from panic attack involves working with a psychiatrist for the right meds, and a psychologist to show you different ways or reacting to your panic. I used to live my life in survival mode: Fight or flight. And now, I've been successfully treated. Yes, there is hope.
