Like all viruses: it has a"spear"shaped form. it penetrates the cell, it blends it's genetic code with our DNA, it gets the cell to produce more viruses until it explodes, then the process starts all over with other cells.
The polio virus is a neurotrophic virus (likes nerve cells) and binds to these cells through a cell surface molecule known as CD155. The normal function of the CD155 molecule is presently unknown. As the virus enters the cell it sheds its capsid and begins the process of infection and creating more viruses.
