I am 29yrs old and have had two children and I am looking to prevent any further pregnancys as well as help control as many of the pcos symptoms as I can....I am willing to have surgery if this is the best option for me(or my husband can as well!!) Any advice?

I thought doctors typically prescribed oral contraceptives as treatment for PCOS so, that would be your birth control but, maybe that doesn't work for your particular case.If you are deciding between a vesectomy for him or a tubal for you, I'd suggest the vesectomy. There's simply less risk involved and vesectomies are done quick with local anesetic while you'd need general for a tubal. General anestetic is dangerous enough. Then there's recovery time and other risks involved. I've also heard a little about Ensure it's a permenant sterilisation for women and they do it without general anestetics. That might be an option. You might want to look into getting a IUD but, I can't tell you much about them since, I'm scared of them! I haven't had children and heard terrible stories about the insertion hurting a lot in people without children and the risk of the uterus expelling the device. OUCH! I know they last about 5 years though.

I am taking Metformin to control my PCOS symptoms and the mini pill to avoid getting pregnant (I'm still nursing my 9 month old so I take the pill with no estrogen to maintain my milk supply). I have asked to remain on the Metformin indefinitely because I feel better and it has alleviated many of my symptoms. I asked, just out of curiosity, if going off it would be sufficient to keep me from getting pregnant but was told it wasn't. If you are looking for permanent contraceptive, I think your options are the same whether or not you have PCOS. A tubal won't change your hormones so you'll have the same issues.
