Yes it is a form of self injury.The motives and severity can turn it to a disease, i cant remember its name though.Other forms of self injury are starving, scratching, burning, cutting, hair pulling, air restriction, all sorts of things.Hair pulling is harder to hide once you start pulling it out not just pulling on it. Cutting is easier to hide in my opinion and the pain is greater. But hair pulling wont leave you with scars...
