In other words, what can one ask a dentist to do which is the cheapest possible thing and which may help provide immediate pain relief? I do not want to spend $500+.

i have tmj and when i went to the doctors for it, at that time i was wearing braces and she told me by the time i get my braces off it will cure my tmjand it did

they are going to recommend getting a"bite guard"you can make your own by going to a sporting goods store and getting a football mouth guard. Follow the directions on fitting it to your mouth and you have essentially the same thing for less than $10.00 (including gas to go get it) as the $500.00 form fitted"bite guard".

My dentist sent me to the chiropractor and it has help alot, i rarely have any problems as long as I keep up my chiropractor visits (about once a month).

i had tmj...i got braces and that fixed it for me
