Does it hurt to get surgery done on my jaw to get rid of TMJ? -

Well i have really bad problems with my jaw.. my dad says its TMJ.. its there my jaw pops alot when i open my mouth real wide..some times it hurts really bad...and sometimes it gets stuck.. i was wondering if it hurts to get surgery done on my jaw to get it fixed.

Oh geez. DON'T do it! My aunt had it done 3 times (no joke) and she STILL has sever pain. I remember visiting right after her first surgery and she was in extreme pain.There are lots of things that help:-Heating Pad-$25 jaw guard that you buy at drugstore (DO NOT get suckered into buying the $800 one from your dentist. It dries out and loses its shape and the cheap one is WAY more comfortable)-Muscle Relaxers-Accupuncture-Consciously making an effort not to clench your teeth when stressed (for ex, I put my tongue btwn my teeth so I don't clench)-make it a rule not to chew gum
