Use your common sense: foods high in cholesterol or that can increase your body cholesterol are those of animal source, including meat (especially red meat), processed foods, and those high in saturated fats. On the other hand, foods lower in cholesterol include fruits and vegetables (that have high quantity of water).
It is true that the way you cook foods will interfere in your lipid profile, therefore grilling, baking, steaming are the most encouraged ways of cooking food; while frying (and deep frying) should be avoided.
The best diet I like to follow (and I actually do is the Mediterranean diet), with olive oil, fresh fruits and vegetables, poultry, olives, cheese (low fat), yogurt or sour (low fat), whole grain homemade pasta, etc. Really yummy
