Definetly, many mentally illness which won't allow people to function properly are considered disabilities. In fact my brother is Bipolar, and schizophrenia and we gets insurance disability money monthly. It differs case to case but he sees a Psyhciatrist every 6 months, and once a year he meets with the insurance agent to keep his disability checks. I'm pretty positive he has to apply, and filled out a very long packet to apply for disability. The state looks it over, and decides if his case is severe enough that he won't be able to function like the normal human and then they determine what amount would be sufficient for the individual. It really is a great program for those with disabilities.
