Default How long does the average baby stay in newborn size clothes? - 12-21-2008, 09:23 PM

I am wondering this because i am due July 6, and i don't know if i should buy newborn summer clothes, which say 5-8 lbs or 0-3 month summer clothes that say 8-12 lbs. I can't predict how big my baby is going to be.How quick does a newborn outgrow the newborn clothes?

For the first little while, you will probably keep your baby in comfy pj's. I'd suggest buying a couple of 0-3 months and a couple of 3-6 months). Assuming you don't want to spend alot of money try Target, Mervyns or Khols.Since he/she won't be born until July, wait until then to buy clothes as they start going on sale around that time.mb

Neither of my kids wore newborn size. We did 0-3 right from the start. Baby #1 8lbs 14oz, baby #2 7lbs 13oz.

First congrats! My daughter was born July 23rd, she weight 7 lbs. 15 oz. and was 19 inches long. She was only able to wear NB size clothes for about 3-4 weeks. She could wear the NB size pants the longest, but she outgrew most of the other stuff. It seems most of the name brands run large, so Carter's, Old Navy, etc. may last you a little longer size wise.Just get a few NB size items and a few more 0-3 size. You're right, even the Dr. cannot correctly predict the size your baby will be. Good luck

My son was 8lb 3oz and lasted about 2-3 weeks in the NB size. They really fit just fine in 0-3 clothing, it's not a big deal if it's a little baggy at first since they grow so quick. You will probably get enough NB size clothes as gifts.

I had my daughter in a variety of NB and 0-3 sizes for exactly 3 months. She had a few outfits that she outgrew a week or two prior and a few that she continued to wear a few weeks after, but for the most part ... they fit exactly 3 months.I suggest getting a mixture of 0-3 and NB clothes. I put my daughter in 0-3 sizes to begin with. If its a bit big, its not drastic enough to really matter... especially if its a dress. As you advance in sizes, you'll have more cross overs. (One 6/9 month outfit might only fit when she's 4-6 months. Another might fit perfectly through the time period. Another might be too big until 9-10 months.) Sizes and fits just start varying so much more. My daughter has had 6/9 month outfits that were tighter fits than a 3/6 month outfit. Frustrating sometimes!

I didnt buy any newborn clothes but i had alot given to me. My daughter will be 8 weeks on sunday and is still in her newborn clothes and diapers. She was 7lbs 8oz when she was born and 20in long. Her 0-3 mo clothes are still a lil big but i think we will switch her to those soon. For my shower i got alot of 0-3 mo 3-6 and 6-9 so i dont think ill run out of clothes anytime soon. lol

I'll say it would depend of how your baby is growing. My baby grew out of her newborn clothing around 1 1/2 month. And remember, don't buy too much baby clothing because they may outgrown them before you know it.

It all depends on how big your little one is when he or she is born. My little girl was 8.12 so se was not in newborn for long at all. I would only buy a package or two of onesie's and one or two cute outfits and 2 pj's. You won't have them out much at that stage and they will be wrapped in blankets when most of the time. After the baby is born you can always go out and get more. Plus people always bring you outfits so you might even get some then.Don't buy to much it's kind of a waste. They grow out of things so quickly so don't spend to much money on any one thing.good luck

I would say go with the 0-3 months then the baby won't grow out of them so fast. Babies grow very fast.
